On yer bike lads!

Two well-known Welshpool lads will cycle the length of Wales later this month to raise money and awareness for a charity that is close to home.

Danny Hardy and James Greatorex will set off from the north tip of Anglesey on September 28 with the goal of reaching Cardiff three days later on the 30th having travelled 250 miles through the unforgiving Welsh countryside.

The pair are doing it in aid of the little known Prader-Willi Syndrome Association which is a condition that affects Danny’s niece Kelsy.

“We both like a challenge so we decided to put our efforts to good use,” said Danny. “It will be a very tough ride in a short space of time but the thought of supporting Kelsy and other children like her will keep us going.”

James now lives in Cardiff but jumped at the chance of supporting his close friend for the marathon mission.

“This is a charity that is close to Danny’s heart so I feel privileged to be in a position where we can raise money for a children’s charity,” he said.

The pair will tackle the infamous Lôn Las Cymru route which will take them through three mountain ranges on their route south.

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare disorder and only effects between one in 10,000 and one in 25,000 new born babies. PWS typically causes low muscle tone, short stature if not treated with growth hormone, incomplete sexual development, and a chronic feeling of hunger that, coupled with a metabolism that utilises drastically fewer calories than normal, can lead to excessive eating and life-threatening obesity.
