Llanfair reunion a huge success

21/11/2011 @ 07:01

Almost 250 past and present footballers and supporters made it a night to remember at a reunion dinner for Llanfair United Football Club.

The highlight of the night was an exhibition showcasing over 90 years of football in the town. It saw ex-players travel from as far afield as Portsmouth and London to debate golden times gone by, while entertainment was provided by David Oliver, Geraint Peate, Cogiau Llanfair and Kev and Dave.

A decent sum was raised from a Promise Auction with all money shared between the club and Cancer Research UK.

Club secretary Jonathan Richards said it was also a special night for one loyal clubman.

“The club paid tribute to Ivor Owen,” said Jonathan. “Jock, as he is affectionately known, started supporting Llanfair in 1949 and even today is an active member of the committee and collects the gate receipts at every home game.

“Llanfair United Football club would like to thank everybody for attending and supporting the evening with special thanks to the Leisure centre for providing a great venue, Ty Cerrig for the great food and all those that helped to make the evening such a success.”
