Vet gets set for trek

22/12/2011 @ 04:00

A local veterinary nurse is packing her bags for Borneo in 2012, with a clear goal to eradicate animal cruelty across the world.

Emma Gerrard works at Cain Vets in Llansantffraid but will take time off next April to fly to Borneo for a tough trek to raise funds and awareness.

Emma is hoping to raise £2500 for the International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) which intends to construct a veterinary clinic in Sabah, Borneo.

“IAPWA are a UK registered charity established to prevent cruelty, neglect and in-humane practices for thousands of dogs and cats in the northern part of Borneo,” explained Emma. “The team aims to provide help for companion animals worldwide, with their first project focusing on Sabah, Borneo.

“This sponsored trip aims to raise vital funds to help towards the building of the veterinary clinic, sanctuary and education centre in Sabah, Borneo. This will be the first project of its kind in the country and once established, will enable thousands of animals to receive the care and attention they need.

“We believe we can create a world where animal cruelty becomes our history and compassion for animals becomes our future.”
