Village’s right Royal knees up

20/01/2012 @ 04:02

The past 12 months have not been the happiest for residents of Leighton, but they can collectively look forward to a party or two this summer.

The dispute between villagers and local farmer Fraser Jones over plans for a super dairy have been well-documented over the past 12 months. But the village is set to show off its community spirit with an extended Bank Holiday weekend of activity to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee from June 2-5.

A small committee has been formed with plans for a treasure hunt, fun run and a village show featuring a range of competitions and entertainment for people of all ages. Evening entertainment is also planned along with a dog show and flower festival in the Church.

A statement from organisers urges residents to get involved and to invite participation from surrounding communities.

“Currently we are asking for donations for the promise auction which will be held in April to raise funds along with donations from local businesses and any residents towards the cost of staging the event. It is intended for this to be a return to an old fashioned show where the whole village and surrounding communities can take part and celebrate what is good about Leighton.”

A range of fund raising events are being organised to raise funds over the coming months and mywelshpool will keep you informed.
