A Question of Sport

08/02/2012 @ 12:34

Powysland Museum has brought together sports items from Welsh museums for a new exhibition which will run until the end of February.

Items including a uniform worn by Wales at the 1958 Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, through to souvenirs of the Ryder Cup in Newport 2010 and recent football and rugby items are all on show.

Organisers say the exhibition has shown that many sports are either under-represented in Welsh Museum collections or missing completely. Visitors will be asked to respond by telling museums what they should be collecting to represent their recent history - not just sport – so that future museum displays are relevant and representative.

The exhibition then tours other Welsh museums over the next two years.

The exhibition is part of Contemporary Collecting Wales, a Museums Association Effective Collections Special Project funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. It is also supported by the Welsh Government through the Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales.
