Earl of Powis: The tour guide

09/03/2012 @ 01:58

"Welcome to Powis Castle ladies and gentlemen. Your guide for this morning is.... the 8th Earl of Powis!"

Next Friday (16th), the 8th Earl of Powis (pictured) opens his doors to the public for an exclusive tour of his ancestral home.

Bookings are being taken now at £18 for the rare opportunity to learn first hand about the life of his ancestors who lived at the Powis Castle & Gardens from as early as 1587.

All the secrets of the Castle will be revealed through stories recounted by the Earl that cover centuries of mystery and family history.

Alison Dyer, Assistant Visitor Services Manager, said: “This is a rare honour that we are really excited about. To have a private tour of Powis Castle with the 8th Earl himself will be a very special treat for anyone interested in history or who love to hear stories from one of the most fascinating families in Great Britain.”

The castle and gardens opened for the 2012 season on March 1. The gardens are open from 11am to 4:30pm in March with the castle opening an hour earlier than usual at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, tomorrow (Saturday) the Castle holds an open day at 11am for potential volunteers to become one of 30 room guides.

Alison added: “We’re looking for people who are friendly, welcoming and feel comfortable talking to visitors, and who have an interest in the Trust or its work. Volunteers can do as little or as much as they want. We have roles to suit everybody.”
