It’s showtime in Guilsfield!

29/03/2012 @ 10:34

Guilsfield will be treated to a touch of “Shakespeare, but absolutely nothing like you have ever seen before” when the village’s amateur dramatics starts a three-night run of its Spring Production this evening (Thursday).

The evening promises a double dose of entertainment, rounding off with a rude, slapstick comedy about the bawdy relationship between the, apparently, genteel Will Shakespeare and the more down to earth ‘charms’ of his friend, the poet and playwright Ben Jonson. Tomatoes and eggs fly with the insults and one upmanship of true male friendship and rivalry. Gentlemen & Players by Vic Mills will deliver laughter and pathos combined.

This is preceded by an interesting modern take on the story of Julius Cesar, but from the women's perspective. It is a fascinating insight into a well known story exploring the power base, social structures and relationships of Roman women, from servants and retainers to the most noble born. Cato's Daughter by Margaret Wood is described as a thoughtful and entertaining drama.
