Mending Maesydre!

15/08/2012 @ 05:26

Maesydre Primary School is battling back, and this weekend it will have a facelift courtesy of the town’s residents hoping to return it to its former glory days.

The school has endured a couple of tortuous years which culminated in a damning Estyn School Inspection that placed it into ‘Special Measures’.

Well known local figure Russell Cadwallader was drafted in as headteacher at Easter and its new look board of school governors has launched a charm offensive to win back the town’s confidence.

With several of the Inspectors' concerns already ‘ticked off’, this weekend’s activity aims to bring back a sense of community ownership to the school.

“It is yet another sign that we, as a whole school, are wiping the slate clean on the past and moving forward into a very bright future,” said Governor Terry Ingram. “It is time to get the school back on its feet after some time in the doldrums. We have a new senior management team in place as well as a newly invigorated board of Governors and some truly unbelievably loyal and dedicated parents and friends of the school.”

That loyalty and support will be put to the test on Sunday at the ‘Love Your School’ day, starting at 9.30am when the spruce up operation will be launched.

“The aim is to have the school ready for business in September,” said Mr Ingram. “We intend to paint walls, doors and fences as well as place artwork around the playground.

“Together we intend to return Maesydre back to where it belongs providing the very best education for the children of the town and its surrounding areas. We want to make the school a place that every child from every infant school in the town will want to come to. Ultimately Maesydre should be a school that the whole can be proud of.

“With the new structure in place, we are confident that we can do just that with Sunday sending a clear message of the unity that has now grown within the school.

The ‘Love Your School’ day is being sponsored by Kaye Derwas (ex pupil) of Derwas of Welshpool, who is supplying the materials.

If you can spare an hour or so on Sunday to help out, you are welcome to turn up to help out. Refreshments will be provided.
