Help send Brooke to Disneyland

12/09/2012 @ 09:59

It’s not often you come across a feel-good community story these days, but the residents of Oldford have come up trumps.

Mywelshpool has been contacted by Nick Davies who has launched an appeal to raise money for a five year-old neighbour, Brooke McMahon, who has inspired the community through her brave fight against cancer.

Mr Davies has formed a committee to organise a series of events in a bid to raise £2,500 to send Brooke and her family to Disneyland Paris, but keep it under your hat as she is not aware of the efforts!

“She has inspired me to do something,” said Mr. Davies. “I started collecting £2 coins but realised more could be done so we have formed a committee to organise a bunch of events, starting with a Charity Hoi bingo (bingo with a difference) at Oldford School on September 23 from 7pm. Maesydre’s headmaster has also kindly let us use the hall for a children’s disco on October 26.”

A charity football match is planned between a Rikki Lloyd’s X1 v Welshpool Town FC Veterans on September 30. A children’s disco and mini-Santa run are also in the pipeline, but Mr. Davies hopes the community effort will become a project backed by the town.

“What has this lovely five-year-old girl done to deserve this? Nothing,” he said. “This trip would give Brooke an extra incentive to get better quicker so I urge anyone that can spare some money to do so. Times are very hard but this will really make such a big difference and send out a positive message from the community.”

Mywelshpool will keep you posted on any events planned for Brooke but in the meantime, if you can spare a donation, send it to Brooke McMahon Appeal, 19 Bryn y Castell, Oldford, Welshpool, SY21 7UB.

Mr Davies said he hopes the committee can raise the money by February 2013. For more information, contact Mr Davies on daviesnicholas@hotmail.com.
