Steaming into the Swinging Sixties

13/05/2013 @ 01:58

Get set for a trip back in time this weekend when the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway revives the time when it was relaunched in 1963 as a heritage line.

As part of the line’s Golden Anniversary celebrations, the Swinging Sixties weekend Saturday and Sunday promises a return to the days of flower power and mini-skirts.

All along the line visitors can expect to see Sixties fashion, Sixties cars and hear Sixties music. Volunteers at the line have been sorting out suitable outfits to add to the atmosphere and organisers are keen for visitors to get involved too – dressing up is optional but fun!

Further attractions include stalls and a bouncy castle at Welshpool Raven Square, the chance to judge the dressed-up scarecrows spottable from the train at various locations along the line, and at Llanfair, hot food and a real ale bar will sell the specially-brewed Anniversary Ale.

Railway spokesman Andrew Charman said: “We hope that lots of people will come along, dress up and enjoy a heavy slice of 1960s nostalgia, while having a good time too.”
