Touch of class at new shoe shop

There’s a real “touch of European fashion” on the way to Welshpool with the February opening of East Avenue at 42 High Street.

The new shop will offer a range of quality shoes and accessories from the best European producers and is being opened by a well known Welshpool family.

The business, which will open on Saturday, February 28 is owned by the Andreou family who run the highly successful and award winning Andrews Fish & Chip shop in High Street.

The building was previously occupied by the Granary Restaurant and has also served as a Chinese takeaway and fried chicken outlet.

“My brother Andreas has recently left the corporate world in London and we decided to partner together for this project,” said Costas Andreou.

“Youngest son Nicholas has also been heavily involved in the refurbishment so it really has been a family affair.

“With my background in local business and Andreas' experience in the corporate world, we feel that we have a combination that could complement each other.  We chose to offer shoes because we feel the people of Welshpool deserve an additional choice of fashion and footwear without the bigger towns being their only option,” he added.

“Our intention is to produce a pleasing retail environment with a good service to local clientele.  The products are sourced from across Europe and quality is carefully sought and negotiated alongside affordability.

“We hope we have the balance right and are pleased with our first business decision to recruit Christine Turnbull as the manageress. Christine’s experience in the local retail sector, alongside her professionalism and personal approach, was a perfect fit for what we were looking for.

“Our close working relationship will undoubtedly produce a pleasing working environment and a pleasing experience for our customers.”
