10/12/2010 @ 10:29
Lyn Meredith, the former Deputy Head at Welshpool High School and a well known local sportsman has co-written a book about Llanidloes Cricket Club.

Lyn, a former Welsh Amateur International goalkeeper, has teamed up with lifelong friend Byron Hughes to pen ‘The Daffodils Who Played In Whites’. Hughes is a former international at both cricket and football.

Tracing the history of Llanidloes Cricket Club over a 40 year period the book is full of stories about the many characters who graced the wicket, with many also turning out for the successful town football club too.

Meredith taught at Welshpool High School for 22 years and lived at Guilsfield and in the town.

He moved to Welshpool as Head of Chemistry, became Head of Science, Senior Teacher and then served as Deputy Head from 1985 to1992 before retiring.

Lyn then moved to Rhayader to help run a family business along with his late wife Eunice, to whom the book is dedicated.

He was an accomplished sportsman representing Llanidloes, Welshpool, Hereford and Wales on the football field and played his cricket for Llanidloes and Montgomeryshire.

The book is published by Y Lolfa and on sale at £6-95. It was launched at Llanidloes Football Club last Friday.
