Hundreds are expected to gather at St Mary’s Church today to mourn the death of former Welshpool Mayor and County Councillor Ann Holloway.

A funeral procession will lead mourners down Brook Street on Saturday ahead of a service remembering the life of Miss Holloway, who died last week.

The Town Council has announced that a procession will leave the former English teacher’s home in Lledan Terrace, Brook Street, at 1.10pm before being joined by members of Welshpool Town Council and Powys County Council as it passes Triangle House.

The service at St Mary’s will start at 1.30pm followed by interment at Christ Church and an afternoon tea at Church House. Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies will present part of the eulogy, councillors from Town and County Council will act as bearers with firefighters from Welshpool acting as ushers.

“All are invited to attend the service, interment and afternoon tea to celebrate this incredible lady’s life,” said a town council spokesperson.

There will be a book of remembrance at the afternoon tea and also in the Tourist Information Office for two weeks following the service.

There will be no parking at Church House after 12 noon.

Miss Holloway died on Monday, September 19 in the Rhallt Nursing Home after a short illness.
