MyWelshpool Motoring Writer Steve Rogers and his wife Jean are back home after a 1,600 miles trek across Europe as borders closed in a bid to beat the Coronavirus pandemic.

The couple were spending three months in Roquetas de Mar in Spain's south eastern province of Almeria and were not due to return to the UK until the end of April.

With borders closing as Spain and France approached lockdown the couple decided to head for home at 7pm on Monday night – not knowing how far they would get - and were back home at 4.30am this morning.

A 29-hour road trip saw them clock up 1,308 miles before arriving at Calais to catch the 11.30pm Folkestone Express last night and a further 295 miles later they were home.
