Fire service to the rescue

08/02/2016 @ 06:55

Police are warning drivers to take extra care after a couple were rescued from their car tonight just outside Welshpool.

Specially trained fire fighters from Welshpool rescued the couple, said to be from outside of the area, after their car became stranded close to the Airport entrance.

It is not clear whether warning signs of rising water were in place, but police are appealing for people to take precautions.

“The water was over knee deep but they were rescued by the fire service and not injured,” said a police spokesperson. “They are making other arrangements now for the rest of their journey.”

Storms have brought heavy rain into the area with a number of roads flooded. The advice is to avoid travel unless absolutely urgent.

Using the Twitter hash tags #BeSafe and #BeSensible, Welshpool Police have asked people take care if they do venture out tonight.
