Parents warned as flu spreads

13/01/2011 @ 11:03

Parents have been warned to keep their kids at home at the first signs of showing symptoms of flu as cases rise sharply across the area.

The warning has come from Public Health Wales (PHW) who has issued letters to all parents advising them not to send their children to school or any other public events and to keep them isolated until fully recovered.

Dr Mac Walapu, a Consultant with the Communicable Disease Control team at PHW said: “There are several strains of seasonal flu in the community at present – including swine flu – and in order to prevent further spread, parents should not send their children to school if symptomatic and keep them away until recovered.

“Symptomatic individuals should also be excluded from school attendance for any other events including sports, concerts and other performances.”

The letters were distributed through every school in the area with pupils asked to pass on to their parents. It also issued the basic advice for infection control as well as stressing that parents should contact the family doctor if unsure.

It also stated that the Health Protection Team could be contacted on 01792 607387.
