Simply the best

Welshpool’s athletics star Adele Nicoll has won yet another major title, and smashed a 15-year-old record in the process.

The teenager threw a monster 16.08m to land the shot putt title in the British Universities and Colleges Sport outdoor championships (BUCS).

The Cardiff Metropolitan University student broke her own personal best to clinch gold at the event held in the Bedford International Stadium. Her winning margin was nearly two metres clear of her nearest challenger from Derby.

And not only that, she threw 45.95m in the discus to take silver behind Amy Holder from Brunel on 50.54m. Last night she was understandably happy.

“What an absolutely amazing first outdoor BUCS with Cardiff Met!” she said “I finished with 45.95m in the discus after just three throws, then retired early from the competition to focus on the shot final. This throw was enough to win the silver medal.

“I then won the BUCS shot putt title with a new PB of 16.08m, taking a 15-year-old championship best performance and the new under 23 Welsh Record. Happy is an understatement!

“Once again thanks to everyone who has supported me and to those who will continue to do so.”
