A local youngster impressed so much at a recent swimming gala that he was nearly poached by our friends from across the border!
Morgan Jones (pictured), the younger brother of Welsh elite swimmer Dan, picked up an incredible six golds at the West Midlands Championships in Coventry.
Aged 15, he was competing in the 15/16 category in six events and caught the eye of a talent scout.
“He was approached after the championships and asked to represent central England in the UK School games later in the year in Loughborough,” said his mum, Tracy.
"Unfortunately for them, Morgan cannot accept as he attends a Welsh school (Welshpool) so he is hoping that from his success and his position on the Welsh rankings he may have the honour of representing Wales at the same competition.”
Meanwhile, brother Dan is training hard in Swansea before heading out to France soon for a training camp and competition in June. Local companies Best Kebab and Rikki Lloyd have been providing solid support.
But both brothers were the victim of a crime we reported last week. Despite their two expensive mountain bikes being kept under lock and key and just 10 yards from the family home, thieves managed to steal them last week.
“They are both gutted, as are we,” said Tracy. “They were under lock and key and bolted together under cover in a shed less than 10 foot from the house. Whoever took them and others that night knew what they wanted and where to find them!
