Newtown are on a roll in the Shropshire Cricket League Division One after recording a huge victory over Cound.
There were runs at the top order for Tom Goodwin (40), Hamish Harding (61) and Tom Foulkes (59) as Newtown amassed a healthy 224 before the bowlers tore through Cound, dismissing them for just 50. Dave Anthony took 6-27.
Welshpool and Montgomery have hit form in Division Two with another weekend of victories.
Montgomery’s came following a superb bowling performance at Shrewsbury III who were bowled out for just 44 chasing Monty’s 156-8. Aaron Ruff-Cock starred with the bat with an unbeaten 71, before his bowlers dismantled the hosts with Ed Bennett (4-8) leading the way.
Welshpool made light work of chasing Ellesmere’s 152-7 by cruising home in the 36th over with Adam Knight (44) top scoring.
Guilsfield’s winning start to the season came to a high scoring halt at Coton Hall who set a whopping 276-7 to chase. Not a team that looks for draws, the villagers went after the total but wickets fell and they finished on 157.
In the reserve divisions, Montgomery II hit a deadlock with Pontesbury who posted 184-4 with the hosts holding out on 146-9 from their 45 overs.
But it was better news for Newtown II in the league below after they returned from Bishops Castle II with a win in Reserve Division Three. They needed just 78 to win after a strong bowling performance.
