Jobless numbers down

19/05/2016 @ 08:01

Montgomeryshire continues to thrive economically with the latest jobless figures showing that just 418 people are claiming Job Seekers Allowance.

That figure from the Office of National Statistics represents just 1.4% of the economically active population. The number of claimants is 60 lower than in March, and 73 lower than in April 2015.

There were also 115 claimants aged 18-24 within the constituency, 15 lower than the same month last year.

The news has been welcomed by local MP Glyn Davies MP who said: “The astonishingly low unemployment figures in Montgomeryshire are continuing, as are the striking high levels of employment. Montgomeryshire remains the constituency with the lowest rate of unemployment in Wales.”
