Weather forecasters are predicting a day of sunshine for Welshpool’s annual carnival on Bank Holiday Monday.

Welshpool is set for a return to its colourful heydays tomorrow which is great news when you consider that just three years ago the annual event nearly vanished off the calendar for good and forecasts say the sun will shine.

The theme for the Carnival this year is Mardi Gras, bringing colour and vibrancy to the town with Welshpoool’s very own athletics star Adele Niccol performing the opening ceremony.

This year’s Carnival Queen, Sian Williams, and her attendants will be arriving in style via the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, in time for the procession which leaves the car park at 1pm, led by the Batala Bermo Band.

It will make its way around the Town with people invited to come down on the day to add colour through the following judging categories: Adult Float, Youth Float, Adult Walking Group, Youth Walking Group, Single Adult or Single Youth.

The procession will end at Maesydre, where rising athletics star Adele Nicoll, from Welshpool, will officially open the Carnival. Entry to the carnival field is by donation and it will be full of various attractions and entertainment such as, fairground rides, bouncy castles / inflatables, ferret racing, donkey derby, donkey rides and quad bikes.

The main arena will include performances from the Cambria Band, Eleri Willson (winner of the Welshpool Talent Show) and a dancing segment.
