Unexpected entertainment for Carnival

30/05/2016 @ 07:14

Glorious sunshine greeted thousands of people who turned out for Welshpool’s annual carnival on Monday and those on Broad Street got some unexpected entertainment.

As the crowds lined the town’s streets waiting for the procession to make its way from Berriew Street Car Park a motorist found themself lost and confused by the town’s one-way system and managed to drive down Broad Street in the wrong direction.

The crowd roared and applauded as the driver was pulled over by shocked police officers who it is believed saw the funny side of things and sent them on their way.

It was an unexpected bonus for the crowd who basked in the sunshine as they waited for the Mardis Gras themed carnival procession and Carnival Queen Sian Williams, who had earlier arrived in style on board the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.

There was also an appearance from Welshpool's new Mayor Councillor Steve Kaye, wh greeted the crowds as he walked with the procession to The Maesydre.

The return of the ever popular Batala Bermo Band from Barmouth was welcomed as they headed the procession in typically flamboyant style en-route to the Recreation Ground where big crowds enjoyed the entertainment.

MyWelshpool thanks Neil Breeze and Christine Holmes for the images.
