Having won their league and following their successful football tour of Holland in 2015, Welshpool Villa U15s are off to Copenhagen in Denmark today (Wednesday).
The youngsters will be visiting Brøndby Stadium and play against a youth team from the Brøndby Academy, with other matches against Gentofte/Vangede and KB – the latter is the youth section of FC Copenhagen.
The visit will also include a tour of ‘Parken’ – the stadium for the national Danish team and the home pitch for Copenhagen FC.
Besides football, activities planned include an assault course in the trees climbing through hanging cars and wheelie bins; a canal tour of Copenhagen taking in the Little Mermaid and Nyhavn, the old sailor quarter; and of course a visit to Tivoli gardens.
The players (and parents) have been working hard fundraising for the trip packing bags at Tesco; quizzing at The Smithfield Bell, cycling around Lake Vyrnwy and selling items on e-bay.
“The team cannot thank everyone enough for supporting these activities by donating money or sponsoring the team,” said a spokesperson. “We are also thankful to those companies and organisations who have donated.”
That support has come from Welshpool Tangent and the Burgess Land Trust as well as corporate sponsorship from P.R.B Commercials, W.P.G, Powys Readymix Concrete Ltd (TG Group), UNITED Performance Metals, Mid-Wales Housing Association, Darren Weaver Builders, SWG, C&L 24hr Emergency Drainage, Diane and Titch at The Westwood and RIKKI Lloyd.
