Show's over for Flicks in the Sticks?

A monthly showing of films on the big screen in Welshpool is set to end, MyWelshpool understands.

Flicks in the Sticks plugged the gap following the closure of the town’s cinema three years ago.

Films were shown on a screen in the Town Hall once a month with the organisers recreating a feel of the big screen that has been missing since the Pola called it a day.

The scheme, which also visits other rural villages, received Welsh Government funding which is thought to have ended.

“Welshpool is taking a break from their monthly Flicks In The Sticks film screenings. There will be no film in June, July or August,” said a contact at the Town Council who helped to organise the evenings.

“The Welsh Government grant has ended. This means the cost of providing the films has risen substantially. There is a chance that this grant maybe replaced in September, in which case it may well come back.”
