Drug arrests sweep Welshpool

15/01/2011 @ 10:25

Six people were arrested in Welshpool last week as police launched a New Year blitz on drugs misuse.

Among those arrested was a woman who received a cannabis warning after being caught with the drug in her car parked at a popular wildlife spot near the town.

Three people were arrested in a car near to Welshpool on suspicion of being in possession of cannabis and one was later issued with a caution.

On Monday, police raided a property in Foundry Lane, Welshpool where two men were arrested for possession of cannabis. Both have now been charged to appear before Welshpool Magistrates.

A Police spokesman said the arrests send a strong message to the community: “We will not tolerate drugs misuse whatsoever and encourage members of our communities to report their suspicions to us so that we can deal with individuals and groups rapidly and effectively,” said the spokesperson.

“We don’t have a major drugs problem in the area, but there are a minority of people who will continue to use drugs in their everyday life, this can have an impact on crime and anti social behaviour in the area.

“Quality of life issues such as drug and alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we will endeavour to deal with these issues positively with our partner agencies to improve the quality of life for our residents.”

All issues can be reported to the new Dyfed-Powys non-emergency number of 101 or via e-mail at welshpooltownnpt@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk. If you have information but do not wish to give your name, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, and you may be eligible for a community action trust award.
