Dr Rhian Davies’ 10th Gregynog Festival, which runs from June 16-26, has created a real buzz at the box office with tickets selling so fast that some performances are already sold out.
Plenty of second week treats await though – so it’s best to book now to avoid disappointment. Highlights include:
Ensemble Nevermind – the hot new French early music quartet plays 18th-century arrangements of Irish tunes.
Daniel Grimwood – a virtuoso described as having “velocity and firepower” by BBC Music Magazine plays an imaginative programme on a Broadwood square piano.
The Academy of Ancient Music with Bojan Cičič – performing repertoire from the 18th century Golden Age – Handel, Vivaldi and Corelli.
Finghin Collins – one of Ireland’s finest talents surveys beautiful Irish piano music including favourites Bax and Grainger
Ailish Tynan and Iain Burnside – the dream team performs Irish songs.
Fidelio Trio – the outstanding Fidelio Trio, shortlisted as best chamber ensemble at the 2016 RPS (Royal Philharmonic Society Awards), performs this year’s Festival commission by Sam Perkin inspired by Fron-goch.
Chamber Choir Ireland – superstar Paul Hillier directs a showcase of contemporary Irish repertoire with this award-winning choir including Shakespeare settings to mark the 400th anniversary
