Final twist to Cup saga

17/01/2011 @ 09:19

The saga surrounding Technogroup Welshpool’s reinstatement into the Central Wales Cup appears to be over, after the club decided to withdraw its application to return.

Uproar followed the apparent decision to potentially allow The Lilywhites to return to the area’s premium regional competition despite publicly withdrawal initially citing potential fixture congestion and financial reasons for doing so.

But 24 hours later, opponents Tregaron Turfs were informed by the Central Wales FA that the match was back on after Town decided to play after all. It did not go down well with the West Wales club who refused to play and it sparked angry debate on local football blogging sites.

But now the saga appears to have had one final twist, with the club now deciding to withdraw once again.

In a statement, they said: “The committee of Technogroup Welshpool FC have written to the Central Wales FA to withdraw our application to be reinstated in the Central Wales Cup.

“When we made the initial enquiry about withdrawing our resignation, we were under the impression that Tregaron Turfs FC were happy for this to be allowed. This has since proven to not be the case.

“We feel that Tregaron FC are well within their rights to be aggrieved by the situation and, in light of their opposition, we have elected to do the honourable thing and step aside.

“We wish them all the very best of luck in the next round against Llansantffraid Village and for the rest of the league season.”
