There were important wins for Welshpool and Montgomery in Division Two as both kept their promotion hopes on track.

Welshpool travelled to Prees who restricted them to making just 113-9 from 35 overs, but the bowlers took control with Tom Anderson (5-18) and Rob Anderson (4-18) ensuring the hosts ended well short on 73 all out with two overs to spare.

Montgomery remain top, two places above Welshpool, thanks to a crushing victory over Church Stretton. Despite the best efforts of James Corfield (6-32), Montgomery were frustrated with Stretton holding out on 102-9 from their 40. It was a comfortable target to chase and it was reached in the 39th over despite a few hiccups along the way.

Newtown’s

superb form at the top of the Shropshire Cricket League Division One continued with a crunching victory over Allscott.

And it was another blistering display from the bowlers, with David Anthony taking 6-40, that laid the foundations for victory as the visitors were bowled out for just 93.

That ensured an easy afternoon for the batsmen who cruised home with just two wickets lost and 25 overs used.

Guilsfield were frustrated by Wroxeter Grove in a low scoring draw which saw the villagers set a target of just 113. The visitors saw out their overs for 104 with just one wicket to spare for a share of the spoils.

In the reserve divisions, Montgomery II came unstuck at Division Two leaders Shelton who posted 153-9. Monty replied with a disappointing 88 all out.

In Division Three, Welshpool II lost a low scoring game at home to Broseley II after setting just 83, while Newtown II’s match was cancelled.
