Facebook erupted in outrage last night after it was revealed that up to nine cars were vandalised during a funeral wake for a former serviceman.

The family’s appeal for information was met by anger after they revealed that the cars were ‘keyed’ during a mindless attack.

Police have confirmed that the cars were all parked near Heritage Green and The Cock Hotel on Monday afternoon while mourners attended the wake for popular local man Gary Jones, aged 56, in the Cock.

A social media appeal followed from daughter, Caitlin, who thanked the large attendance paying respects to her father before adding:

“Unfortunately the day was marred by a hateful individual/individuals who keyed the cars opposite the Cock Hotel between 2.20pm-3pm whilst we are at his wake. Eight out of nine of these cars belonged to the ex and current service men who carried dad’s coffin into the church or his immediate family.”

She went on to say that he would have been “absolutely devastated and disgusted, as we are, to think that someone could behave so appallingly”.

Caitlin goes on to claim that some cars were keyed on both sides using considerable force and believes the attack would have taken up to 10 minutes.

Her post was shared over 100 times last night as outrage spread across the area.

If you have information about the incident, please contact the police on 101.
