MP’s "disappointment" at job losses

Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire (right), has expressed his disappointment at the decision by SI-UK (Shimizu industry UK) of Welshpool to lay off up to 100 staff.

 

Mr. Davies was speaking after the company, which supplies parts to the car industry, confirmed to mywelshpool that it would be releasing all temporary and up to 30 permanent staff. Although not confirmed officially, sources told us it could leave up to 100 people out of work.

 

“Shimizu is a very important business to Welshpool, providing good jobs and good prospects for the future,” said Mr David. “It’s disappointing that market conditions have made it necessary for the company to reduce the workforce by 30 and cancel all temporary working.  We must all hope that market conditions improve soon, and employment levels at Shimizu can increase again.”
