Welshpool RBL branch still under investigation

26/07/2016 @ 03:14

Welshpool branch of the Royal British Legion is still under investigation it was announced today.

The investigation into historic financial fundraising issues was launched back in February this year and a statement today from Royal British Legion headquarters in London confirmed investigators were still carrying out inquiries.

A spokesman confirmed the investigation was ongoing but did not add any further detail.

Back in February a spokesman said: “I can confirm that we are holding an internal investigation into a fundraising issue at the Welshpool Branch. No further comment will be made at this time.”

Last year’s Poppy Appeal in Welshpool smashed all previous records but new officials including a Poppy Collection Organiser were appointed at a twice-convened annual meeting which on the second occasion was supervised by officers from the Wales Cardiff headquarters.

Since then the head office has insisted the Poppy Appeal be dealt with separately and has reappointed Mrs Jan Williams as the Collection Organiser with the office set to be in the Town Council owned Tourist Information Centre.

Welshpool Town Council will tonight discuss a report from its Finance & Administration Committee which recommends that all future Mayor’s and Remembrance parades be headed by Welsh and Town Council standards along with changes to the procession order.
