Waterloo Rovers are the latest club to drop a SparMid Wales League bombshell by withdrawing just a few days before the start of the season.
Following an emergency meeting last night, the club decided it would be best for the long term future of the club to take a breather from Spar Mid Wales football and regroup in the lower leagues.
Club stalwart Dave Proctor told us this morning: “After an emergency committee meeting last night we have sadly withdrawn from the Spar Mid Wales League.
“We have lost a number of players during the summer and have been unable to replace them.
“We will now play with one team in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League and look to rebuild with a view of returning to the Mid Wales League in the future.”
Last season, the club ran three sides with the first team finishing in mid table in Spar One, and the Reserves competing in the Amateur League Division One. The Waterloo Colts side played in Division Two but it looks like all three sides will now be rolled into one to play in Division One.
It’s been a tough summer for local football with both Bettws and Forden pulling out of the Mid Wales set-up, and there are rumours that player shortages could yet claim one or two more clubs before the season gets underway this Friday night.
