Cancer charity’s urgent call for help

20/01/2011 @ 11:37

A charity is urgently in need of Welshpool volunteers to carry out collections over the next few weeks.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is appealing for people to give up an hour of their time to collect funds for the annual Great Daffodil Appeal in both Welshpool and Newtown.

“We are desperate for volunteers,” said Debbie Rowley, Community Fundraiser for mid and north Wales.

People get a daffodil to wear in support of Marie Curie Nurses in return for their donation. All money raised helps Marie Curie Cancer Care provide free nursing care for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses in their own homes and the charity’s hospices.

“Marie Curie Cancer Care’s services are free to patients, their families and carers but the charity can only provide these with your support,” Debbie added.

“Your valuable time in collecting donations will be turned into providing essential nursing care for terminally ill people.”

Volunteers can call the Daffodil Hotline on 0845 601 3107 or contact Debbie on 01745 352912 or 07798638074.

The Great Daffodil Appeal has become one of the UK’s biggest ‘flag days’, with around four million daffodils handed out each year.
