Zonfest, a family organised festival that has raised thousands of pounds for much needed and local charities, takes place at The Horseshoes, Arddleen on Sunday, August 28 in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Appeal.
Six years ago Yvonne Ellis of Welshpool Kitchen Centre was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer and had to undergo two operations and two years of treatment, which without the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre wouldn’t have been possible.
Yvonne was born and bred in Arddleen and worked at The Horseshoe for over 10 years with The White Family, the children could never say her name properly so hence Zon! So this year the event is going home .
“This is how Zonfest got to where it is today,” said a spokesperson. “But it’s not all about Yvonne, it’s about helping other people to get through the biggest fight of their lives .
“The Lingen Davies Cancer Fund currently has an appeal to raise £750,000 by the end of the year to buy a new Radiotherapy machine that will enable patients to have quicker treatment times and other benefits. We are hoping to be a big part of the fundraising.
“We will also be giving a donation to The Leg Club Severn to help fund their continued hard work for the community.
“Each year we have held the festival, amazing musicians give their valuable time for free to help us raise money. We are also so very grateful to the businesses and people that have done and continue to support our event by donating prizes and giving their time to help. We would like to thank you all so much.
“So come along to The Horseshoe Arddleen on 28th August from 2pm onwards for a day full of live music, activities for children and adults, a BBQ, faffle and much more.”
A shuttle bus will be provided for surrounding areas for a small charge to save people driving.
