Get involved in Biolblitz

12/08/2016 @ 05:28

A bioblitz event to record the flora and fauna living in Deri Woods at Llanfair Caereinion is to be held next week.

The Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust hope to attract people of all ages to the event on Saturday, 20th August between 10am and 4pm to help them to spot and record the animals, birds and plants who live in the woodland in Llanfair Caereinion.

“We need to know which species are living on site in order to form an appropriate management plan for the woodland and to monitor new species and population numbers” said Chris Radford, Deri Woods Project Officer for MWT.  “To capture this data we need to undertake a variety of surveys and this is where visitors to the event can help”.

The day will include a programme of surveys including moth and mammal trapping, bird ringing, river sampling and mini beast hunting, as well as crafts, children’s activities and refreshments.

The highlight of the day will be demonstrations by Nick Burton and his horse, Elza, from Powys Forest Horses who will be showcasing the traditional and sympathetic method of wood extraction using horses.
