Ffion Lovatt, 14, won a bronze medal at the weekend’s British School Games in Loughborough, making it a memorable Wales debut.
Ffion, who trains at Go Judo! in Llandrinio, qualified with team mate Adam Castell through the Gemau Cymru event at Sport Wales Cardiff in August, but unfortunately Adam had to withdraw due to prior commitments.
The Welshpool High School student performed superbly against the other Home Nations in the individual Competition and National Teams event, despite being the youngest girl and lowest grade in her category.
“Her bronze was as a result of a great attitude, resilience and superb fighting against tough older opposition,” said Go Judo! Head Coach Pete Castell.
Go Judo! is open Tuesdays and Fridays at Llandrinio Hall where beginners train between 6-7pm and junior and seniors train between 7-8pm. Contact Pete on 01691 831874 or go.judo@yahoo.com for more details.
