It used to be a classic race of man versus machine, but even the modern day version of pedal power versus steam engine is popular.
The annual Race The Train takes place today with booking taking place at Welshpool Raven Square Station from 10.30-11am.
The train travels eight miles, but the cyclists must do 10 so it will provide a test.
“The entry fee is £6 per bike cycle and all competitors must be over 14 years of age. All cyclists must wear a cycle helmet and have a cycle which is roadworthy,” said a spokesperson.
There will be check points on route with marshals, drinks and chocolate.
The event is being organised by Welshpool Rotary Club with support from the town council so more information or bookings can be made at townclerk@mail.com call 01938 553142 or 07767 267830.
