The organisers of the Welshpool 1940s Weekend have confirmed that a Spitfire aeroplane will be on static display in the town centre as part of the 40s weekend.
The plane (pictured), credited for some of our most famous World War II victories, will be a star attraction for the first weekend of October which will be packed with events.
“We all see Spitfires at air shows flying overhead, but this will allow members of the public to get up close to such an iconic aircraft, so close that they can get into the cockpit and experience the feel of being in control of a plane that will always be remembered for the role it played in the Battle of Britain,” said an event spokesperson.
The buzz is growing for the event which has seen the number of tickets sold for its Blitz Ball on Saturday, October 1, doubled compared to last year’s. Featuring the Ashby Little Big Band, the Ball’s advance tickets are £10 (a saving of £2.50) and can be obtained from Welshpool Jewellers or The Hafren Box Office on 01686 614555 or www.thehafren.co.uk.
The same outlets are also selling tickets for the Spirit of Blitz Variety Show and also the Military Wives Choir Concert.
