It’s been another exceptional summer for a pair of Welshpool brothers who are making a name for themselves swimming in the Wales cap.
Dan, 20, and Morgan Jones, 15, have been cementing their places in their respective national teams following a season that saw personal bests chipped away at once again.
Morgan (right) was almost poached by English schools but opted to try for Wales and his loyalty paid off by being selected for the 2016 UK School Games held at Loughborough University.
“It was such an invaluable experience being among 1600 other athletes in the sport village,” he said. “I was part of the 4x100 free relay and 4x100 medley relay team where we came a respectable fifth and sixth.”
Morgan clocked one of the fastest 100m in the pool and just prior to the competition he was selected to compete at the GB National Championships at Ponds Forge Sheffield for the first time where he swam personal bests in the 50 fly and 50 back and was ranked 14th in GB for the 16 years age group.
Meanwhile, Dan (right) also competed at the GB Nationals and completed seven swims in four days for both heats and finals.
He lowered personal best times but the icing on the cake was a Silver medal with his team in 4x100 freestyle relay and a respectable fourth in 4x200m freestyle, missing out on bronze by less than a second.
“I have had a few weeks break over August but I am now back in Swansea for a really tough training schedule for the next 12 months hoping to secure my place on the Welsh Commonwealth 2018 squad,” he said.
The boys would like to express their thanks to Rikki Lloyd; and Rambo and Chris of Best Kebab Welshpool for their continuing support.
