A Town Trail of 13 information boards located along the former Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway route was opened in Welshpool on Friday.

The Town Trail was the idea of Alan Crowe and was supported by Welshpool Town Council and includes a series of 13 information panels plus two murals along the former line from Raven Square to the main line railway station.

Each information panel has photos relating to the train at that location, some also have copies of other memorabilia with some having QR codes, which when scanned with a smart phone play a DVD of the train at that point.

A short ceremony took place outside the Tourist Information Centre when deputy mayor Councillor Hazel Evans unveiled a board alongside Mr Crowe and town clerk Robert Robinson.

“My thanks go to Arts Connection, Welshpool Area Group of WLLR, Rotary Club of Welshpool, the Trustees of former Retired Gentlemen's Club in New Street, Phyllis Brown, Sign City UK and to all the individuals who supplied the photographs and video footage,” said Mr Crowe.

“The trail is part of my Memories of Welshpool Project and the panels have been adopted by the Town Council.”
