Planners have moved quickly to reassure residents that the ongoing work to build the new Aldi will have minimal impact on the environment.
Complaints were made after a tree line which separates the development from the canal was removed, but planners have asked those concerned to be patient and to judge on the finished product.
A statement last night from the town council’s planning chiefs said:
“There have been many enquiries about the boundary to the canal but as part of the planning application being granted, the agents detailed that the tree line along the canal would be removed and that it would be replaced by an instant hedge prior to the occupation of the building.
“This is controlled via a condition on the permission. We are aware that the tree line has now been removed and the site has been bound with temporary safety fencing whilst development takes place. The temporary fencing is not subject to control by the Local Planning Authority.”
