Fundraiser extraordinaire Spencer Watkins, 13, is proving that our kids are ‘gooduns’ by announcing his latest effort to raise valuable charity cash.

The Welshpool Young Fire Fighter (YFF) and part time DJ (and of course high school pupil!) has announced that he is ‘Braving The Shave’ to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care this October.

And if that wasn’t enough, the day will start with a coffee morning and that same evening he will be behind the decks to DJ for a charity knees up.

He is being supported by the lads at the fire station who said the youngster never ceases to amaze them with his energy for supporting good causes.

“Spencer has been growing his hair since early summer and will be having it all shaved off for charity at an event that he and his family have arranged at their house in Arddleen on October 22,” said Crew Manager Matt Pryce from the fire station.

“Spencer decided himself that he wanted to do this in memory of his late Grandad Ken, who sadly passed away eight years ago from cancer. Spencer wants to raise money to help other people like his Grandad get the help they need.

The talented youngster has DJ’d at other fundraising events with his disco and plays piano and saxophone. He is also a season ticket holder for Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

“Spencer has been a member at Welshpool YFF for three years, and is a smashing lad who always thinks of others. When he told us that he was to Brave the Shave Welshpool station wanted to give Spencer its full support,” added Matt.

The fundraising event will take place at Llys Perthy in Arddleen where the coffee morning will get things underway at 11am, followed by the shave at around noon.

After watching his beloved Shrewsbury Town, he will set up his disco at the village’s Horseshoe Inn where he will DJ from 6.30pm so the fun and fundraising can continue.

If you would like to support young Spencer, either pop along to the Big Shave in Arddleen or you can sponsor him online at: https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/spencer-watkins/. He can be contacted through 01938 590964.
