Over 500 sign Potters petition

01/11/2016 @ 12:44

The campaign to save Potters recycling centres in Newtown and Welshpool has been boosted by over 500 signatures on the Lib Dem petition.

Campaigners were out in force in Welshpool on Saturday with Richard Church, who is leading the campaign in Welshpool and Jane Dodds, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Montgomeryshire.

“People just cannot believe that Powys Council could consider closing either of the recycling centres in Montgomeryshire,” said Richard. “Potters in Welshpool is busy every day with people coming from miles around to get rid of their waste. The Council cannot one day urge people to recycle and the next day talk about closing one of the most important facilities that enables people to recycle.

Jane added that “our recycling centres are essential to help people get rid of bulky waste” and that closing either of the two remaining in the shire “will cause huge journeys for people, which is not only massively inconvenient, but is bad for the environment and will lead to more fly tipping”.

Montgomeryshire Liberal Democrats petition urges Powys Council to drop the option of closing recycling centres from their proposals.

The petition is available at: http://www.montlibdems.org.uk/recycle_centres.
