Livestock Market hosts two sale days

Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday 24th January 2011.

OTMS (63)
An entry of 63 over thirty month cattle presented for sale. 52 cows averaged 101.6ppkg and 4 bulls
averaged 111ppkg, 6 heifers under 48months averaged 109ppkg and a steer at 109ppkg. D R Owen &
Sons Sandilands presented a Limousin cow weighing 811kg and sold to a top price of £1013.75. CV &
EM Lewis Garth Vaughan sold a Limousin cow to £986.90. Other continental cows achieved £961.36,
£866.25 and 853.60. R J Roberts Dysefin Farm presented a Charolais bull weighing 1140kg to a top price
of £1265.40. D R Owen & Son Sandilands receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the
highest price animal sold on the day.

FAT CATTLE (19)
All 19 fat heifers sold to a good average 158ppkg. J M Rowlands Dolwen sold two fat heifers to 193ppkg
and 185ppkg both bought by Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool. D Jones Glebe Farm presented four heifers to a
top price of 177ppkg. W Hughes & Son Waen Farm presented seven heifers to a top price of 169ppkg.
J M Rowlands Dolwen receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price beast

An entry of 5369 prime hoggets, selling to an average of 173ppkg.
Super Lights (125) to 156ppkg from E H Bennett Trellwydion. Averge of 147ppkg.
Lights (386) to 239ppkg from ER & CB Williams Dafarn. Others to 193ppkg from L B Owen Bonciau.
Average of 165ppkg.
Standards (1616) to 203ppkg from C D Jones Bedol. Others to 202ppkg from BJ & MA Morgan Old
Neuadd. Average of 172ppkg.
Mediums (2111) to 207ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Others to 204ppkg from E H Pennie &
Son Gwernychain. Average of 174ppkg.
Heavies (868) to 185ppkg from E H Pennie & Son Gwernychain. Others to 177ppkg from DE & KB
Owen & Son Rhallt. Average of 163ppkg.
Over Weights (262) to 165ppkg from TD & MJ Orrells Middle Llegodig. Others to 163ppkg from M P B
Ashton Belanddu. Average of 152ppkg.

CULL EWE (2285)
A good entry of 2285 cull sheep sold well. Ewes averaged £52.66 per head and rams averaged £68.42 per
head. Cull ewes topped at £135 per head and cull rams at £148 from W J C Pryce Prenafal. I W Richards
Glanllyn presented cull ewes to £99 per head. R A Davies LLwynderw sold cull ewes to £97.50 per head.
W Jones Glascoed sold a cull ram to £106 per head.

STORE EWES & STORE LAMBS
545 store lambs entered the market this week selling to an average of £49.10. Suffolk mixed and clean
lambs topped the sale at £64 from EJ & GM Trickey Moat Farm, Caersws. Texel tup lamb were up to
£60.20 from E O Evans Cefnybraich Llansilin. Texel theave lambs sold up to £57 from DB & KB Owen
& Son Rhallt Isaf Llanfair Caereinion. Texel mixed and tup lambs reached £55.80 from W A Morris
Ceunant Meifod. A large crowd of potential purchasers at the ringside proves that there is still a demand
and the trade is remaining similar to support it. Sale of Store lambs to commence at 10.30am next week.
Special Sale of In Lamb Ewes.
There was a special sale of 450 in lmab ewes this week selling to a reasonable trade considering
conditions and external factors. Pure bred Texel yearling ewes scanned with doubles topped the sale at
£200 from TD & MJ Orrells & Son Middle Legodig Abermule. Suffolk two year olds scanned doubles
sold up to £114 from D M Davies Coed Talog Llanerfyl. Mule yearling ewes scanned with doubles were
making £128 from D M Roberts White Oaks Llanfair Caereinion. 3 year old mule ewes scanned mostly
doubles reached £102 from JC & JM Williams Coedtrefe Tregynon. Texel full mouth ewes scanned with
doubles sold to £111 from D J James Lower House Berriew. Mule as found ewes half and half singles
and doubles sold to £84 from G I Francis Bryn Farm Newtown. Seasonal appearance of In lamb ewesexpected next couple of weeks, Special Entries invited.

COWS AND CALVES (6)
G R Jones Tynrhos presented three Limousin in calf cows to £930, £810 and £680 and a Belgian Blue
in calf heifer to £760. J B Thomas Albridge Farm presented two Hereford in calf heifers to £860 on both
occasions.

Tuesday 25th January 2011.

Welshpool Livestock Sales are delighted to report on excellent trade on the 1141 cattle forward for their
first sale of 2011. With buyers from across the country, trade was even throughout with the best cattle very
much in demand.
