A nationwide operation is underway to target the gang that has raided our area over the last two months, stealing tens of thousands of pounds worth of power tools from vans.
Welshpool, Montgomery and villages around Newtown have all been targeted with some regularity recently, and the gang appears to have spread its operation in Radnorshire with overnight raids reported in Knighton this week.
It is thought that the thieves have some sort of a master key that enables them to enter vans with little fuss, meaning they are in and out within seconds.
It has prompted another warning from Dyfed-Powys Police this morning.
“Dyfed-Powys Police continue to receive reports of thefts of power tools from vans in the Montgomery and Radnor areas,” a statement said.
“This is a national issue and Dyfed-Powys Police is working with other police forces and partners, with efforts focussed on investigating incidents and deploying patrols to deter further occurrences.
“Police would like to advise people to remove tools and valuable items from their vehicles overnight, to prevent them becoming a victim of theft.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.”
