Richard Church is to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Powys Council by-election for Welshpool Llanerchyddol ward on December 15.

Recently he has been leading the Liberal Democrat’s campaign against closing Potters recycling centre in Welshpool.

“Over the last month I have been conducting a door to door survey of every household in Welshpool Llanerchyddol ward,” he said. “There is huge dissatisfaction with Powys Council, currently led by Independent councillors. Those who told me the current council’s administration is poor outnumber those who think it is good by 3:1.

“Independent councillors cannot agree among themselves, are split into at least three different factions and have failed to manage the budget to protect vital front line services like Potters. The Council needs new leadership offering a new direction to rebuild the confidence of the people it exists to serve.

“This by-election is a chance to send Powys Council a message that the closure of Potters recycling centres is unacceptable, and the Independent councillors need to think again.”

Richard lives in Welshpool at 34, Woodside and has over 30 years’ experience as a campaigner and business person, according to the Liberal Democrat’s press release.

He is the second name in the hat this week, after MyWelshpool co-founder Graham Breeze announced at the weekend that he will run as an independent.
