A new and free open music night is being held later this month, with the hope that it will become a monthly gig.
The first Open Acoustic Night will be held on November 30 from 7.30pm in the Kings Head, Guilsfield, with the plan to hold it every last Wednesday of the month.
It is being started by local resident Wendy Allen who says she misses the opportunity of just going along to play at venues and is hoping it will attract the support of other musicians from different musical backgrounds.
“I know there is a lot of musical talent locally, so I am hoping that by creating an open opportunity it will bring a few of us together,” said Wendy.
“I used to play the folk clubs as a teenager with a close friend and later played music with other bands.
“I was recently inspired and after many years’ absence, decided to pick up my guitar, dust it off, get out there and give it ago. I found some good folk sessions but also found that I needed to travel quite a distance to them.
“The idea of it just being ‘folk music’ may put off a lot of musicians so an ‘acoustic night’ opens it up much more.”
Wendy said that it will be a great way of bringing people together in a community spirit and added that “we are looking to attract people who just want to have a go as well as more accomplished players”.
“The idea is to just have an enjoyable evening.”
With it being held in a pub and on an evening, Wendy added that if someone under 18 wants to give it a go then it would be at the discretion of the landlord.
