Welshpool is set to benefit from a £40,000 new play area to be located at Maesydre.
The plans have been backed by the Town Council which has given the go ahead for designs to be made and has earmarked the amount from its 2011 budget.
It is good news for a town that is expecting some service cuts in the coming months due to Powys County Council budget restrictions. But, for now, the children at least will be smiling.
“The new playground has been approved to proceed by the Town Council and the drawings will be with me this week,” Town Clerk, Robert Robinson, said. “The schools have been consulted on what is to go in there. The next stage is planning consent and tenders after which we can proceed sometime late April early May.”
Mr Robinson confirmed that the developers will work from a clean sheet and added: “Until I get the drawings next week I do not know what equipment is proposed.”
