Churchstoke launch year on top

02/01/2017 @ 08:58

The year will start with Churchstoke sitting atop the Montgomeyrshire & District Airgun League sponsored by AE Autoelecritcal.

A depleted end-of-year programme saw a top of the table clash between the league leaders Churchstoke and second placed Guilsfield A.

Shooting on home ground Guilsfield were in no mood to give their visiting rivals any Christmas cheer. A superb match resulted, and although Churchstoke's very credible scores of 33's and two 34's by J Thomas and A Baker they were no match for in-form Guilsfield.

With three scores of 34's by R Knight, A Knight and D Pritchard and superb possibles of 35's by D Knight (35) P Phillips (35.5) and Chloe Lloyd (35.3) the home side took the match 208.4 to 201.5, gaining ground on their rivals.

Llanfair hosted in-form Crew Green B who were in festive mood turning up in their Christmas jumpers and captain Trevor Davies in his inflatable Santa suit.

Llanfair welcomed back Andy Roberts, however they could not match Crew Green's consistency and superb possibles by J Hilditch (35.3) and A Hilditch (35.3) with Ian Brown (34.4) just missing out on his possible. The away team taking the match 199.3 to 190.8.

The final match of the festive period saw Newtown entertain Guilsfield B side who on the night could not match the consistency of the home side. Newtown scored 33's across the board and a credible 34.4 by captain Jess Corbett to secure a much needed win by 197.2 to 191.8.

The match of the week was that top of table clash between Guilsfield A v Churchstoke, while the Team of the week goes to Guilsfield A for their superb shooting despite Crew Green B pushing them close for their festive rig outs.

Shooter of the week: There are several shooters scoring possibles who are deserving, but this week girl power gets the nod in Chloe Lloyd for her 35.3.
