Chruchstoke have suffered back to back defeats over the Christmas period, as the leaders let their rivals into contention for the Montgomeryshire and District Airgun League sponsored by AE Autoelectrical.

A defeat to Guilsfield A was followed up by another loss to Arddleen which has thrown the title chase wide open on Week 12.

The leaders were blown away by a scintillating shooting performance by the home side, raking in another high score of 207.7 to 197.5, with Martin Pearce (35.5), Richard Lewis (35.4) and a very credible (34.4) from young Jack Francis. To rub the salt into the wounded Churchstoke, Steve Smith stepped up with a superb maximum score of 35.7, his first in the league.

Second placed Guilsfield A won at Forden who introduced four new young shooters. However, they were no match for the consistent shooting displayed by the visitors and 4 x 34's and 2 x 32's took the match 201.8-183.9.

Hot on the heels of the top three, Castle Caereinion entertained a out-of-sorts Crew Green B and consistent 34's and 33's saw them take the match 202.3-191.2. However the star of the match was Adam Hilditch (Crew Green B) with his superb 35.3 possible.

Another of those teams hoping to close the gap on the top are Crew Green A hosted a Newtown side yet to hit top form. Despite two possibles by Jamie Thomas (35.2) and captain Jess Corbett (35), the home side just edged this one by the narrowest of margins 194.2-194.1. Crew Green A captain Nigel Kelton topped their scoring with a possible 35.3.

Despite absent shooters, Llanfair gave Guilsfield B a strong match with a superb possible (35.2) from captain Nick Lloyd. But an improving Llanfair side could not quite match the consistency of the visiting team who took the match 196.9-196.7

Match of the week.

Tough call but it has to go to Crew Green A v Newtown simply for the .1 margin. Llanfair v Guilsfield B a very close second.

Team of the week

That has to go to Arddleen for another scintillating display of Bell target shooting.

Shooter of the week

No competition, Steve Smith for his magnificent 35.7 maximum.
